Pattern Welded Blade
The author really gets into making what is popularly called
damascus steel. The correct name for it is "pattern welded
steel". The real damascus steel is a crucible made steel
called "Wootz Steel". This may seem like a minor point,
but not if you are around real bladesmiths'. Wootz or damascus
has been re-discovered by Al Pendray in FL and a few others.
Making Wootz is not discussed in this book, but different
patterns of pattern welded steel are discussed and the author
shows you how to make them, grind them and heat treat them. Again
there is some repitition in this book and the other two. If you
want to make pattern-welded steel this is a good investment.
